Still missing Dave

I can't help it, I still miss David Letterman.

Don't get me wrong.  If the Forever King of Late-night TV, in my not-so-humble opinion, wants to keep it semi-private and spend his days growing and explaining why he's grown that weird beard, I'm happy for him.

I just still miss the late-night guy, the clean-shaven one who, first on NBC, then on CBS, was a long-distance friend and as much a part of our evening routine as brushing my teeth.  Actually, full disclosure, I probably missed brushing my teeth more than we skipped "Letterman," as we called his shows.

He made us laugh out loud, especially during this time of year.  We could always count on Dave to roll out his winter solstice joke in late December:

"Saturday is the shortest day of the year. As a matter of fact, it's so short that Sunday begins in about 20 minutes.  The longest day of the year, of course, is Christmas with your relatives."

This will be our second Christmas without Jay Thomas and Letterman trying to knock the meatball off the Christmas tree with a football, Dave's hilarious annual abuse of the popular new toys for children and, most of all, Christmas Eve Show mainstay Darlene Love warbling "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)."

Crank it up, Letterman fans, this will have to do again this year.  It's from 2014, the final time this magic filled the late-night cable-waves.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Oh, and one more thing:

David please come home.
