'Ghostbusters' 2016: Are you gonna call?

This might not be great news for Columbia Pictures, the gender-switched cast of the re-thunked Ghostbusters brand or, for that matter, movie lovers et al:

According to an article posted on the Hollywood Reporter website, "Ghostbusters is the most disliked movie trailer in YouTube history."

The trailer (see link below) was released March 3, according to the posted article, and was viewed 29.2 million times (and counting) but "is the most disliked movie trailer in YouTube history, according to MyTop100Videos channel's "Most Disliked Videos" list that was last updated April 16. (Justin Bieber comes in at No. 1 with 5.99 million dislikes for Baby.)"

Why is the video so disliked.  Well, here are a couple of guesses from this aisle seat:

Perhaps the trailer doesn't exactly measure up to what Ghostbusters loyalists and devoted cult that followed remember from the 1984 original starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver.

Frankly, I've had little interest in this gender-bender version from the beginning.  That said, my stance is that a movie must stand on its own merit.  I'm not going to judge a full-length motion picture on the reputation or popularity of its cult following or previous incarnations.

What I will do is call a lousy movie a lousy movie if that's my feeling after the end credits fade to black.

Simply put, it's too soon to judge anything about the new Ghostbusters except that Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones will be doing the ghost busting and Murray, Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Weaver will show up at some point.

Ghostbusters, circa 2016, hits theaters July 15.  If you'd like to see what all the negative fuss is about with the trailer, check it out and judge for yourself.
